Courses in Online Marketing for Facebook

Courses in Online Marketing for Facebook

This week for our courses in online marketing, we are going to dive into the belly of the whale: Facebook.  The largest most popular social media shark in the waters today and potentially a gold mine for businesses to attract, interact, and engage with new clientele.  Why potentially?  Well there’s a right and a wrong way for folks to use Facebook for business and thats what we’ll be covering in our courses in online marketing, specifically dealing with the new Facebook Timeline for Pages.

Courses in Online Marketing | Timeline Cover Photo

You see a lot of folks out there might think that the Facebook Cover Photo would be a splendid place for their company to promote special deals, discounts, or events, however Facebook would discourage you from doing so and would rather recommend that you use the Cover Photo to exemplify your company’s style or motif.  As a matter of fact one thing to remember for courses in online marketing are the following Cover Photo tips provided to you by Facebook:

  • Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
  • Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section
  • References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
  • Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”
Show your company’s inherent taste for design rather than self-promotion.

Courses in Online Marketing | Application Tabs

While Facebook already had tabs before the release or even inception of the Timeline, courses in online marketing would like to share some tab tips from the good people over at Wildfire that will really boost interaction for your page.

Make the most of tabs:
• Devote some time to building out your Photos tab since it’s ever-present
• Switch up your three customizable tabs periodically, according to current brand objectives,
product releases, or product popularity
• Utilize a good page analytics tool to determine which tabs to promote day-to-day

Additional best practices for tab images and content:
• Choose tab images that are descriptive, include iconography or copy, and comport
with specifications
• Assign names to your tabs that clearly indicate to users the content the tabs are driving to
• If you drive users to a landing tab, include an on-brand call to action in the tab name that
encourages users to click (e.g., “Start here,” or “Party with us!”)

Courses in Online Marketing | Pinning (You’re Going to Love This One)

Alright, hands down the coolest and most intriguing part of courses in online marketing this week has to be Pinning.  Have you ever posted something on your business page and really wanted it to be seen for days and days?  It could be an event thats coming up or a promotion.  Regardless, you may want to post other content, but with Pinning you can do so and still keep your most important post at the top for up to 7 days.

Here are the steps:

  1. Move your cursor over the top right of the post and you will see a pencil icon appear.
  2. Click on that and you will see a ‘pin to top’ option appear.
  3. If you want to ‘unpin’, then simply unpin the image.
Its as simple as that!  I wonder if the guys over at Pinterest are upset about the use of this term?
