Facebook Suggested Events

New Facebook Suggested Events Feature

Based on your historical ‘check-in’ data, Facebook has released a new feature called ‘Suggested Events’, which will try to predict which upcoming events are most relevant to you.  As usual, the roll out on Suggested Events is slow; also if you haven’t used the check-in function, then you won’t see it.  In order to find Facebook Suggested Events, simply do the following:

  • Go to your Facebook Home page
  • Find the ‘Event’ button on the left side of the page (above your groups)
  • Click on Events. (As usual, different events that are coming up will display on the right side of your screen.)
  • Under ‘Events’, you will see the new menu choice called “Suggested Events.”  Click to see a list of suggested events.

So, what do you think of the new Facebook Suggested Events Function?  Is this a beneficial feature or just another kind of creepy Facebook privacy invader?  Leave your comments below.

Only 1 in 4 Facebook Users Trust Facebook Storefronts

I guess when a social media site has a virus or hoax going through pages every month, its users start losing faith in their ability to protect against fraud.  Picky users.

The online survey, conducted by ThreatMetrix and The Ponemon Institute of a pool of 800 consumers this fall, revealed that 53% of consumers do not believe Facebook storefronts are committed to protecting them against fraudsters. Another 23% were unsure.

Alisdair Faulkner, chief products officer of ThreatMatrix, told Mashable the data reveal that “people trust the [Facebook] brand,” but not to the extent that they believe they or their friends are immune from phishing attacks and spam. Faulkner cited a few recent instances of security breaches on the network including the September “Lady Gaga is Dead” virus that enticed users with a link to a fake BBC story on that topic and a November spam attack on the network.

By the way, was anyone else freaked out at the bogus news of Bon Jovi’s death?  Anyways, for businesses, these results may signal a need to provide information on Facebook and lead people to your website in order to conduct the transaction.  What do you think; do you trust Facebook storefronts?

Facebook is Mission Impossible for Tom Cruise

Does Tom Cruise, the star of the hit series Mission Impossible and other movies, prefer Facebook or Twitter?  The answer is Twitter.  Tom Cruise does not have a Facebook account but does use Twitter.  Of course, that is only partially accurate as he actually has a group of people, known as ‘Team Tom’, that will run all of his Tweets for him.  So ultimately, the correct answer is that Tom Cruise really doesn’t use social media.  Now that you know Tom Cruise’s social media habits, you can sleep soundly at night.

Facebook Names Most Popular Games of 2011

My most popular Facebook game was deleting people who sent me request for Farmville.  While not a gamer myself, millions of hours are, uhm, spent playing games on Facebook.  According to AppDataCityVille is the most popular game with 48.8 million monthly active users. Conversely, Gardens of Time ranks much further down the list with 8.5 million monthly active users.

Accounting questions aside, here are Facebook’s ten most popular games of 2011:
