Timeline for Pages

Timeline for Pages

Its about time that we get an update on Timeline for Pages, because we’ve been fantasizing on just how great its going to be for marketing brands and creating ads that last a lifetime.  With the release of Google+ Brand Pages and Twitter pages for business, Timeline for Pages was really a no brainer.  Although many thought that Facebook would’ve made the announcement at the F8 conference late last year, they were still putting together the finishing pieces for normal users.  However, its circulating that Facebook will release Timeline for Pages later this month.  But just who will get to use the service?  Will it be available to all?

So according to WebProNews Facebook will probably announce Timeline for Pages at the end of this month at a special conference for marketers.

According to apprised executives quoted in AdAge, Facebook plans to begin rolling out Timeline for Brands at the end of February.

Apparently, Facebook plans to announce Timeline for Brands at their first-ever fMC event held specifically for marketers. fMC will take place on February 29th in New York City.

Its widely thought that for the first few weeks or so, Timeline for Pages will be available in beta mode for a handful of companies.  Who those companies are hasn’t been specified, but I can’t imagine that they would wait too long to release it to the rest of the public.  They certainly didn’t wait too long to make Timeline the default design after first giving the option to personal users.

Facebook made the Timeline available for all users back in December 2011. Users to choose to switch over if they wanted. But on January 24th, Facebook announced that they were beginning to push the Timeline to all users. Once you get it, you have a 7-day grace period to clean it up and make it presentable before it goes live. The Facebook community seems to be split on the issue, with some loving the new design and some railing about privacy.

Timeline for Pages | What It Means for Brands

Here Mashable explains why Timeline for Pages is going to be a huge hit for brands, and tells us about some brands that have already attempted to implement it on their own.

Opening up Timeline gives brands some new options for self-expression on Facebook. In addition to outlining their corporate history (something Lexus already tried via a Facebook app), they can also take advantage of Gestures that go beyond Liking. The design also employs a large image at the top of the Page, which could make the individual Pages more distinctive that the old template. Back in September, we asked some top digital firms to imagine how branded Timeline Pages would look.
