Improve Your Facebook Timeline Engagements

Tips on How to Improve Your Facebook Timeline Engagements

Facebook Timeline will be forced onto the remaining holdouts in the next couple of weeks.  Therefore, while some people hate the new Facebook Timeline, it will become a reality for all users in the very near future.  And while some people will complain at first, eventually, everyone will get used to the idea of Timeline.  Once that happens, then Facebook will introduce another update that will change the layouts once again and everyone who once hated Facebook Timeline will profess their love for it while cursing the new version.  So as marketers, we might as well realize that with the new technology will come new strategies for engaging people.  Here are some of my top suggestions for how to improve your engagement on Facebook Timeline:

Improve Your Engagement on Facebook Timeline | Photos

Facebook Timeline is very visually driven and photos will be the best way to promote your brand on your site.  But don’t just think about your own Page, consider that others will want to share your photos on their Facebook Timeline as well, and this sharing of photos is a great way for you to promote your brand because pictures will stay on their Timeline for months.  Here are some good examples of businesses using photos to brand their business with the Facebook Timeline:

Sports teams– the Austin Toros, a NBA D League basketball team, recently helped a guy proposed to his fiancee at a basketball game.  The Toros made sure that they video taped the event and had plenty of photos.  The Toros then put the media on their Facebook Fan Page where the newly engaged couple and their friends went to share the photos.  Plus, both the bride and the groom, who had over 7,000 friends combined, used the photo of the man proposing on one knee at the game as their Timeline Cover Photo!  Businesses would pay thousands of dollars for that type of free promotions.

Improve Your Engagement on Facebook Timeline | Testimonials

Realtors– I know a Realtor in town who we have helped set up their social media, who has implemented a new process when she sells a house.  Everytime she sells a house, she takes a picture of the couple who purchased the new house.  What the agent does is have the couple stand with the house in the background and the agent’s real estate sign in front of the couple.  Then she asks the couple to share the picture from her Facebook Fan Page and, if they’re happy with the deal, thank her for her help.  Most customers are ecstatic to share the photo and most use it as their Facebook Timeline cover.  Again, a great testimonial and advertisement that doesn’t cost the agent any money.

Improve Your Engagement on Facebook Timeline | Increase Likes

Restaurants– I was at a restaurant the other day where a group of 12 people were celebrating someone’s birthday.  The waiter was taking photos and letting the guests know that photos would be on this restaurant’s official Facebook Fan Page site.  They just simply had to ‘Like’ their page, tag themselves in the photos, and share with others.  Naturally, this a couple dozen new ‘Likes’ to their Page and several shares of the photos.

These are just a couple of examples of how you can use Facebook Timeline to allow your Fans to advertise your brand or business for you on their Facebook Timeline.  If you have any example of this type of strategy working for you, please share in the comment field below as we’d love to hear your stories.
