For many, the very subject (tips for searching in Google) might sound silly. As a matter of fact, Google searching is much more than just entering the keyword on the search bar of the Google Home page.  Search results will be more effective if you know and work on specific Google search guides. Surprisingly, there are more number of people who are not aware of many searching techniques that can compel the search engine to deliver what you have in mind.

Google, the world’s number one search engine is cleverly designed to provide the most accurate of search results. However, there are some tips and tricks that can make you a pro when it comes to making full use of the Internet.

1)      When entering phrases

In case you are exploring about the latest technology developments, you would be better off entering your phrases in full like ‘technology development’ instead of plainly entering ‘technology’. Introducing quotes will ensure that the keywords are closely associated and Google delivers the top pages with the keywords arranged adjacently.

2)      Excluding keywords

In case you want to search for the latest home appliances and you want to exclude dishwashers from your list. The ‘-‘symbol comes into play here. When you introduce ‘-‘prior to the keyword you wish to exclude, Google delivers all the results in the home appliances lineup except the ‘-’ symbol.

3)      Searches made specific to websites

When you want to search for a specific keyword-related content in a specific site, Google can deliver content relating to the keyword even if there is no search option in the website. Simply introduce ‘site:’ before the website URL. For example, “’iPhone 5 apps’ site: mashable.com” can fetch you all the content on the Mashable site relating to iPhone 5 applications.

4)      Synonyms and similar terms

In case, you want to make a search with your specific keyword but want Google to throw up results with other similar words or antonyms too, you can use the “~” symbol. Enter the “~” symbol in between your keyword and other similar words to let Google know that they are all one and the same.

 5)      The use of ‘OR’ Operator

When you enter a phrase in Google, the search engine can by default include all the words in your phrase for its searching process. On the other hand, if you want Google to choose either one of the two keywords entered by you, you can do so by using the ‘OR’ operator. When the ‘OR’ operator is used, the search engine can clearly understand that it has a choice between the two words.

For instance, your search term can be ‘laptop or notebook’ to make Google search for laptops or notebooks.

6)      Searches based on location, Date, content and verbatim-based results

This is a powerful tool for people that need location, date, content and verbatim-based results. For example, you can search for the best deals in your country by simply locking the search results to specific countries. You can search for content updated for a specific time – past one year, past one month or even the past 24 hours. You can filter content with images, without images and many more. You can also make a verbatim search which is similar to using the quotes for a group of keywords.

Hope these lists of tips for searching in Google make you a better explorer.
