high concept mobile phones

What are some of the high concept mobile phones?

Mobile phones have come a long way in the past decade, with the introduction of features like mobile music, touch screens, cameras, and even projectors. Many of these ideas started out as concepts in movies, TV shows and the wild imaginations of top designers and engineers. Thanks to this collaboration and dedication to progress we are able to stay connected with friends, family, and business like never before.

So what are some of the new concepts that we can look forward to in the future? There have been several breakthroughs in science with the research in nanotechnology, electronic sensors, and projectors that have opened the doors of possibility for mobile communication.

High Concept Mobile Phones | Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology has created a whole new level of possibilities for technology in everything from electronics to materials themselves like plastic. There are a couple of really interesting and useful looking concept phones that use nanotechnology.

Nokia Morph

This futuristic phone is truly a remarkable concept with its multiple uses of nanotechnology. It is designed to morph from a James Bond wrist piece to a tablet pc to a biological measuring instrument. The phone is transparent for ultimate GPS and navigation. The nanotechnology harnesses solar power for automatic recharging while outside. It is also stretchable which allows it to “morph” into many different functional shapes.

Solar Powered Magic Stone

This phone looks like a wizard’s stone like the one out of Lord of the Rings that is powered by the sun and electromagnetic waves. It comes with features like an on-board projector and a laser keyboard. This phone is impressive in its functionality as well as its design.

High Concept Mobile Phones | Projectors and 3-D Displays

Holographic images being projected into thin air was something only dreamt of and seen in movies like Star Wars just a few short decades ago. Mass media saw it gain momentum with its various uses in campaigns and news debates throughout the 2008 presidential elections. Now it has taken on a new life with the innovation of designers and engineers on concepts for mobile phones.

Cobalto

This phone has a see-through display that rotates within a metal frame. The phone has a curvature with the capability to create three dimensional images like the Eifel tower.

High Concept Mobile Phones |Motion Sensor Technology

Who would have thought 10 years ago that video games would influence the design of communication devices like cell phones? With inventions like the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft’s Xbox kinect, Billy Mayes asked why not with phones?

Mozilla Seabird

The Mozilla labs concept series featured the Seabird, a crowd-sourced project started by Billy Mayes, in September of 2010. This phone operates as a mobile laptop that fits in your pocket. Not only is it a smart phone, it has projectors to create a large display like on a laptop as well as motion sensor capabilities. The projector creates a keyboard and can sense the movements of your hand making it possible to have a full desktop experience wherever there is a flat surface.

Of course with concept phones there are many unanswered questions like; how much will it cost to produce? What functions will still be possible after testing? Is there actually enough real demand to justify research and development? However, every great invention starts out as a great idea. Technology is progressing faster every year and it will be exciting to see many of these concept phones turn into working technology for coming generations.
