4 link building strategies for the New Year

Setting goals for one’s self at the start of each new year is a commonality found all over the world. While most people focus on resolutions for themselves personally, like losing fifteen pounds or quitting smoking, often people forget to create goals for their career.

Your health certainly is important, but this year take the the time to develop some goals that can help your business as well. I’ll start you out. Here are four link building strategies for you can start to utilize in the New Year.

4 Link Building Strategies | Create high quality, intriguing content

This may seem obvious, but to bring in organic traffic and create natural links to your site, you’ll need content that people want to read. If blogging is your thing, start brainstorming topics that will share and establish your expertise. By writing informative and creative articles, you’ll keep both your current and new readers coming back for more. Make sure to create juicy titles that readers will find irresistible to click on. Simply put, by sharing timely and relevant information that people desire, you will find more followers.

4 Link Building Strategies | Promote your new content

Build your presence on your social media accounts, while spreading the word about the awesome new content you’ve created. On Twitter, don’t forget to use hashtags to make your tweets more easily searchable. I’ve found plenty of awesome websites on Twitter simply by poking around and clicking. If I’ve done this, others have as well. If you continue to provide valuable information across your social media accounts you’ll generate more site traffic.

The New Year is a great opportunity to take your social media tactics to the next level. Trying new social networks allows you to engage a new audience. For example, if you’re tired of writing a ton of blog posts, create content for your niche on a YouTube page and add links back to your site. There are tons of new social networks to choose from, like Tumblr and Pinterest, and more will surely crop up next year.

Also, don’t be afraid to present your content to opinion leaders in your niche. If you think they might like what you’ve created and you share it with them, they may just go ahead and share it with their followers. What an easy way to create a link and generate traffic!

4 Link Building Strategies | Avoid link directories and buying links

It’s easy for Google to see when all the links pointing to your site are coming from low-quality directory sites. Therefore, it’s also easy for Google to penalize your site. Steer clear of this strategy; it won’t work in the long run.

Additionally, buying links from valuable sites may provide short-term success, but big search engines also have strategies for determining paid from non-paid links and what type of links create your site’s link structure. Pay-per-click ad campaigns are a much better way to spend money, and high quality content is simply better for creating natural links.

4 Link Building Strategies | Evaluate your keywords

Take a look at what keywords you’re targeting and assess whether any should be removed, or if your should pursue any new keywords. Stay up-to-date with keyword marketing: current events, new developments in your niche, and more could affect your choice of keywords.

In addition to targeting specific keywords, build links without keywords as well. This will help your site’s link structure look more natural to the search engines and will help you avoid penalization.

I know I’ve got some link building work to do next year. Hopefully this will help your efforts. Happy New Year!
