Coming soon – Google Plus 1 Button
On Tuesday, Mashable.com reported that at the Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco, the search giant announced the Google Plus 1 button to debut in the upcoming weeks and gave developers a sneak peek at the Google plus one button. While Google played coy with the exact launch date of the +1 button, you can expect it to make its debut at the end of May or in early June.
What is the Google Plus 1 Button?
The Google Plus 1 button is very similar to Facebook’s Like button or the Twitter Tweet button in that it provides a way for website visitors to endorse and share an article or web page. According to Mashable.com, users will soon start seeing a Google Plus 1 icon next to each link in Google search results. This Google Plus 1 icon will be defined by Google as a “public stamp of approval”. When you Google Plus 1 something, your name becomes associated with that link “in search, on ads, and across the web,” according to the company. It also shows up in a feed on your Google Profile, which is required to use the product.
As of now, the Google Plus 1 button is not designed to help with SEO or search rankings, but it will obviously assist potential customers with social proof needed to know that others have used or benefited from a product or service. Also, the Google plus 1 button will allow you to see if a site is a legitimate, content site or if it is a content, keyword farm designed to help drive revenue for ads. Therefore, this new button can be a major benefit for users.
Google’s Plus 1 button will come with a variety of analytics that will look similar to the Google Analytics dashboard. Demographic information such as age, gender and location will be recorded. The analytics even include Plus 1 data from Google search pages, which could prove useful for publishers that want to improve their presence on the world’s largest search engine.
The company has a signup form if you want to get notified about the button’s launch.
What do you think? Will you be adding the Google Plus 1 button to your website?
