Video Marketing Tips

Using video to promote your product, brand or service is one extremely effective and inexpensive way of advertising.  Utilizing social media sites like YouTube or Vimeo for video placement is a great way to get millions of people to see your message.  The investment in video marketing is minimal as a simple cell phone camera or flip phone will suffice.  But why is video marketing such an effective form of advertising?

Video Marketing Tips | Why Video Marketing?

There are 2 main reasons why video marketing makes so much sense in today’s economy.

First, the Google search engines love video marketing.  A little history on Google search and video marketing show that in 2007, Google released ‘universal search’.  Universal search meant that your search results would no longer be limited to simply text, but would also include video and images as well.  In fact, if you are to type any search directly into Google, you will find that image and video results actually rank at the top of the page.   Therefore, instead of competing over text search results like everyone else, why not utilize video marketing for better search engine results?

Second, and most importantly, is that the majority of your customers prefer video to text.  Video is far more engaging and personal than the written word. Whatever you want to explain you will explain much better with video. Whatever you’re selling, video will show your customers how it works and explain it better than any other medium.  If a picture is worth a thousand words, than a video is worth a million.  Below is a brief video detailing why you should include video marketing in your business marketing plan.

Video Marketing Tips

The following are some video marketing tips to assist you in creating and establishing your brand.

Create a unique intro / exit video.  In the video above, I demonstrated two different types of intro / exit videos.  But the one thing they both had in common was the logo.  The intro video showed a logo being drawn by hand and turning into the actual logo.  While it looks difficult to create or expensive to develop, the truth is that you can outsource to someone else relatively inexpensively.  That intro video?  It was created in less than 24 hours and cost us $5.  The bottom line is don’t let a fear of costs hinder your creative abilities.  You would be amazed at what you can accomplish with minimal investment.

Be creative and interesting.  This is very vague and very broad advice, but there are several types of videos that you can do.  You can create ‘how to’ videos to demonstrate or educate.  You can create ‘example’ videos that help a potential customer visualize how your product or service would benefit them.  For the video above, we used graphics and music along with text to inform.  As long as you are creative and interesting in your videos, your potential customers will watch.

Optimize your videos.  There is almost 50 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute, so if you want to be found, then you must optimize your video.  It is important that you research which keywords will assist you best in being found by potential customers and Google has all sorts of tools for that.

Have a clear plan: Your video should follow a great structure and lead the viewer into the action step.
