Before you start learning how to create memes, of course you should first know what one is, heres a wikipedia definition that breaks it down nicely.

An Internet meme is an idea that is propagated through the World Wide Web. The idea may take the form of a hyperlink, video, picture, website, hashtag, or just a word or phrase, such as intentionally misspelling the word “more” as “moar” or “the” as “teh”. The meme may spread from person to person via social networks, blogs, direct email, news sources, or other web-based services.

An Internet meme may stay the same or may evolve over time, by chance or through commentary, imitations, parody, or by incorporating news accounts about itself. Internet memes can evolve and spread extremely rapidly, sometimes reaching world-wide popularity within a few days. Internet memes usually are formed from some social interaction (Rage comic or reaction faces), pop culture reference (Xzibit in “Yo Dawg” or Bear Grylls in “Better drink my own piss”), or situation people often find themselves in (Socially Awkward Penguin or Futurama Fry / Not Sure If X). For researchers it’s hard to track down the birthplace of memes due to their viral nature, as well as the high chance of the meme spreading to the major websites nearly instantly.

So you may have already seen some of the popular ones on your social media news feed or just through browsing the web, you just didn’t know that it was a meme.  Discovering how to create memes for a business is a little more complicated and takes some solid copywriting.  You don’t want to come of as too salesy or downright cheesy.  Try to blend your meme with a popular phrase or trending image.  Remember your primary purpose in discovering how to create memes is to go viral!

How to Create Memes on Google+

So Google+ took some pointers from the site I Can Has Cheeseburger and had some creative engineers create its own meme creator within the Google+ platform and its pretty damn easy to learn how to create memes on Google+, Mashable explains:

The feature, announced by Colin McMillen, a senior software engineer, is fairly straightforward: To create a meme, all you have to do is grab a photo, drop it into your “Share” box, and then add your own text. The finished product is your image with a nice, meme-y-looking text overlay.

This is clearly an attempt to draw a larger audience for Google+ apart from its dedicated tech community.  I like the memes addition, because it gives business’s Google+ Pages a solid branding tool.
