There are a lot of ways to make money online, whether you’re just a single person who’s working on the side, or an entrepreneur who wants to build a business on the Web. One of the most common services you can offer is content creation – it is what the Internet is all about, after all, and it’s pretty easy to start making money when there are literally millions of people in need of good content.
When you think of content, the first thing that comes to mind is text – articles, posts and news pieces. While creating and selling this type of content can make for quite a lucrative business, it’s not everything you can offer in today’s Web 2.0. There are some newer, and far more interesting, types of content that you can specialize on, and below you’ll find a short list of the most important ones:
Video. Video is all the rage nowadays, as you can see from the popularity of YouTube and hundreds of other sites. Since Internet connection speeds are getting faster and faster, it is now possible to stream HD video to any home, and its popularity will only continue to rise. There are a lot of opportunities when it comes to video content – you can offer screencasts, video intros, promo videos for various products, even stock footage of various places – really, imagination is the limit when it comes to what you can create/film and sell.
Audio. Audio content creation may seem like a niche service, but it can actually be very popular. Despite the popularity of video, there are a lot of cases where audio is better or even preferable. You can offer voice overs, soundtracks, audio mixing, podcasts, audio transcription and much more!
Diagrams and Charts. Diagrams, graphs and various info charts are extremely popular on the Web nowadays! I’m sure you’ve already seen plenty of those infographics on various topics, charts that provide a visual representation of data, and other similar graphics. Well, if you can work with Photoshop and/or Illustrator, you can make a killing creating and selling this type of content! There are a lot of people who would like their boring Excel data converted into a beautiful and easy to understand graph, and any infographics is an instant magnet for links and traffic, so it’s popular with bloggers and entrepreneurs from any niche.
Product shots and Screenshots. Even something as simple as screen shots of various software and photos of hardware can be very popular with users. There are plenty of people online who can write articles on any topic, but most of them don’t offer accompanying screenshots or actual real photos of the products they’re talking about – you can fill that niche. The main reason why any screenshot of a program’s window and menus and real photos of any hardware will sell is that they’re subject to copyright, so no one can just take them from other sites and post them as their own – you’ll be selling them with full rights, which will make them attractive.
3D Renderings and Animations. Obviously, there’s a place for 3D renderings and animations, as well. This is the most intensive type of work I’ve seen, but the rewards are also higher. You can easily sell any kind of animation, 3D or 2D – for example, you can create nice presentations for business employees, create intros or banners for websites, promotional materials, and more.
As the Internet develops and people get higher connection speeds, the content on the World Wide Web will continue to change and improve, as well. If you’re in the content creation business, you should definitely investigate all of the opportunities. You don’t necessarily have to limit yourself to only one type of content, either – you can offer all of them if you wish to!
