“Edge”. An Edge could be a comment, a like, a share or any other interaction with a Facebook post or status. EdgeRank determines what appears on your newsfeed by  ranking each edge according to Affinity, Weight, and Time Decay.

Affinity

Affinity is regulated by the number of interactions you have with another page. For example, if you regularly leave a comment or like a photo on a friend’s page then you are more likely to see them in your newsfeed. People with whom you have a closer relationship to tend to appear in your newsfeed more often.

Weight

Weight gives value to an action: comments require more effort than a like, therefore giving them more weight. Posts with a lot of comments are sure to be seen in your newsfeed.

Time Decay

Time decay is simply time relevance; yesterday’s posts are most likely not going to show up at the top of your newsfeed. Time Decay keeps content fresh.

Engagement

 

When you post any content on Facebook you want it to be seen, and because of EdgeRank some of your content may go unnoticed. The more engagement you can get with users, the more likely they will start seeing your posts on their newsfeed. Use the EdgeRank Algorithm by posting content that will get more weight and affinity; post content that will get more engagement like videos, caption contests, puzzles, trivia, etc. Start a forum that will keep users engaged and active.
