Black Box Social Media reported over a month ago that Facebook was launching Facebook Deals to compete with Groupon. Facebook Deals is finally ready to launch in 5 select cities.
Facebook Deals | What is the deal with Facebook Deals?
Facebook Deals lets businesses offer specials to users. With the new feature, Facebook’s staff will work with businesses to spotlight deals and encourage users to share them with friends. According to an article in Bloomberg:
“Local businesses will be able to sign up to use this feature (Facebooks’ Deal Page) soon, and people will be able to find Deals in the coming weeks,” the Palo Alto, California-based company said in the statement. The foray into the deals market could put pressure on Groupon Inc. and LivingSocial, which lead the nascent industry but only have a fraction of Facebook’s users.
Facebook Deals | How will it work?
With Facebook Deals, you will receive special offers from participants via your Facebook Mail account or even on your feed. You can then either ‘Like’ the deal or pay with Facebook credits . The social element is what will differentiate Facebook Deals from Groupon as Facebook will create a way to share deals with your friends and family. In addition, you will also be able to check-in somewhere and tag your friends so they all get the same deal you got. Since social networking is becoming less about following the wisdom of the crowd and more about following the wisdom of your friends, and Facebooks’ Deals is set to capitalize on this new technology.
Facebook Deals | Where’s it going to launch?
The 5 towns where Facebook Deals will launch will be in San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta and San Diego. Any Facebook user can sign up for Deals notifications on the feature’s landing page now; users in the five test cities will be able to see and use Deals within a few hours of the writing of this post.
