f8 Conference

f8 Conference

Facebook has become a worldwide phenomenon and for many an online extension of themselves, and in just a few hours when the f8 Conference opens their doors and the keynote speakers take the stage, Facebook will unveil its new vision and revolutionary platform.  Journalists, technology renegades, and leaders in the social media field are holding their breath in wonderment of what will be revealed at the f8 Conference.  We’re talking about changes that will affect 750 million users worldwide.

f8 Conference | Facebook’s Vision

Facebook has a vision to share at the f8 Conference beyond making more money, beyond attracting more users (China would have to open their floodgates), or even creating innovative new ways to increase page traffic.  Facebook has evolved into something that is just as vital in day to day communication as the telephone.  Whether or not you’re one of the naysayers that pegs Facebook as a ‘glorified phonebook’ I’ll bet you still have an account.  Let’s run with that, this complacency is the major issue that Facebook wants to address, as a matter of fact the problem with Facebook’s platform can be summed up with one word – disconnection.

Although we all use Facebook every day, we may not necessarily be emotionally connected with our digital social interactions.  As we watch the f8 Conference right now, it seems that Zuckerberg wants to alleviate this emotional disconnect with new features like Timeline that will bring us closer to our network.  Timeline will allow you map out your events and experiences over the year all on one page for you and your friends to browse and interact with.  We’ll be able to add personalized apps that describe our personalities, for example a running app or a swimming app.  If one event really sticks out as an unforgettable experience, you can highlight the event and blow it up on your timeline for all to see (or keep it private, its up to you).

f8 Conference | Themes and Missions

The f8 Conference seems to be revolving around a central theme – making Facebook like your second digital home, with all of your memories wrapped up in the platform.  Will they pull it off, we’ll just have to wait and see.  We’re all watching and waiting patiently to see what Zuckerberg will reveal next.  Will Timeline be the only new feature revealed at the f8 Conference?  We highly doubt it, according to Mashable, Facebook already let them in on the f8 Conference’s secrets, but they promised to keep their lips sealed.

You may have already seen some of Facebook’s new features that launched earlier this week, here’s a rundown from Seth Bergman’s Decoded blog:

…Facebook launched three recent changes: revamped Friend Lists, a real-time news ticker, and the subscribe button. Friend Lists lets you share content with just your closest friends (with whom you have the strongest emotional connection), and the ticker lets you have real-time conversations with your friends as soon as they do anything. Subscribe lets you fill your News Feed with people you admire and respect, fostering a different type of emotional connection.

The news continues on at the f8 Conference as Zuckerberg now explains Spotify’s role in the timeline with songs to match your memories and set the tone for your life story.  A lot of revelations are yet to come and we’ll be right here with ongoing reports and updates on Facebook’s f8 Conference.  And we’ll bow out for the time being with a Zuckerberg f8 Conference Jay-Z Spotify drop.
