Google Plu

Yep, I’m surprised at Google Plus too!

Has Google Plus, the newest social media tool recently unleashed to the masses, already eclipsed the 10 million user mark?  No official answer has been given yet by Google, but Paul Allen (no, not that Paul Allen) of www.Ancestry.com believes that Google Plus is on the verge of surpassing this monumental number in record fashion.  Here’s how he calculates the number of users:

Google Plus | Paul Allen’s Calculations

“He sampled a number of surnames from the U.S. Census Bureau data and compared it to surnames of Google+ users. By comparing surname popularity in the U.S. with the number of users on Google+ with each surname, he can guesstimate the percentage of the U.S. population that signed up for Google+. Finally, he calculated a ratio of U.S. to non-U.S. users to generate an estimate for the number of Google+ users worldwide.  The result? Google+ has approximately 9.5 million users worldwide, with 2.2 million joining in the past 32 to 34 hours, according to Allen’s estimates.” – http://mashable.com/2011/07/12/google-10-million/

If these numbers are actually true, then it would look as though Google has finally found its way into the social networking industry.

What do you think?  Have you had a chance to start your Google Plus account yet?
