Look we aren’t saying to throw all of your SEO tactics out the window, we know that you put a good deal of time into learning, but Google+ impacts search in a number of ways and we want you to be able to implement some new tactics into your online marketing strategies.
The fact that Google+ impacts search could have been seen from miles away, but the specifics are where we’re concerned. Google +1s, shared content, and commented content are already helping many businesses find themselves at the top of searches, especially from users that are logged into Google+. Google+ impacts search more so when a user is logged in, because their searches are greatly influenced by their network. You want to be a part of those networks, even if its just as a civilian user in the meantime.
Google+ Impacts Search | How Do We Get In?
Google has tried to implement social search for sometime now, but now with Google+ the dream has become a reality. GMail and other Google products have already been a part of social search, however with thousands of connections being made with Google+, now Google+ impacts search significantly more than its predecessors.
Okay we know that you really want to know how to get a piece of the action, so here are three tips from DuctTapeMarketing’s article on how Google+ impacts search:
Get into Google Plus and build a following – it’s a better tool for business networking, content discovery and content sharing than any other network currently.
Add the +1 button to your content – the +1 button is integrated into Google Plus, but it’s also a part of the overall content discovery piece in Google search and needs to go along side your Like and InShare buttons on y0ur own blog and web pages.
Add the rel=”author” attribute to your content – Google is attempting to find another, better way to attribute original content to the original author. They have introduced a highlighting feature that will showcase Google Profile of original authors like in the image above. You need to add the rel=author attribute to your content links, point that attribute to an About Us kind of page on the same domain and have a link on that page pointing to your Google Profile page and a link on your Google Profile page should point back to your About Us page. Yoast does a great job explaining this with this tutorial for WordPress folks here
