Tips on How to Build Influence on Google+
We all know that influence on Facebook is largely measured by how many friends you have and with Twitter its how many people follow you, but how can you measure influence on Google+ and more importantly, how do we build influence on Google+? Many of you may have already read our article on Klout: the digital company that measures your influence across social media platforms. Well Klout’s CEO, Joe Fernandez, recently gave his two cents to VentureBeat on how to build influence on Google+, and why its a different beast than say Facebook or Twitter.
Build Influence on Google+ | Pieces of the Interview
Since Klout’s main concern is driving action, i.e. having others respond to your messages, liking your posts, etc., in order to build your influence on Google+, we have to do a little more than simply be a part of a lot of Circles.
“When measuring your effectiveness, consider more than how many people have you in their Circles. Instead, [look at] how many people react to your content and how much reach those people have,” he said. ”Influential people on the system get the most +1′s, shares and comments from other influencers.”
We should distance ourselves from techniques we used on Twitter or Facebook to build communities around our brand in order to build influence on Google+, Fernandez says.
“Fernandez pointed out, ‘Twitter is a public broadcast medium, and it is much harder to converse with a group of people simultaneously. Facebook is predominantly a private network for your close connections. Google+ fills both of these needs; it is the first major network we’ve seen that allows you to both broadcast to a large audience and have in-line conversations.'”

Basically what this means is that not only can you use the system to shout out messages, deals, promotions, etc. to a large group of people, but you can also use it as a CRM tool as well for your business!
Build Influence on Google+ | Business Profiles
Whereas right now, Google+ is primarily for private users to communicate with their own personal contacts, Google will be launching its business-friendly profiles as well within the next few months. And believe me, we will be there to cover it with all of the updates. Don’t you worry.
Where I agree with Fernandez’s Google backed stance on not trying to use the personal profiles to build influence on Google+ for your business, you probably should learn some tricks to build influence on Google+ for yourself. That way, when the business profiles do launch you’ll be well practiced.
“‘When major brands and celebrities start joining Google+,” said Fernandez, “we’ll get a much better idea of the scale of engagement possible on the system. This is similar to how Facebook’s interactions went to a whole new level when brands started joining and developing pages with multi-millions of fans.'”
