Video-Calling Partnership
How would you like to be able to be on Facebook and have a video chat with your friends? This dream may be closer to a reality than you think.
Facebook is considering creating a video-calling partnership with Skype to allow its users to benefit from face to face chats.
Facebook is obviously interested in adding video chat to it’s resume as this addition would ramp up competition with Apple Inc. (who recently introduced the feature on its iPhone) and with Google Inc. (who offers Web calling through Gmail).
According to Skype, 41% of all web calls last year came through Skype.
Skype would view a video-calling partnership with Facebook as a great way to increase their market share.
“Last year, we announced the integration of Facebook in Skype, so people can keep up to date with their Facebook friends through News Feed in Skype and even call and SMS their Facebook friends on any phone from Skype,” Facebook said yesterday in an e-mailed statement. “With regards to any further integration, we don’t comment on rumor and speculation and have nothing to announce at this time.” http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-05/facebook-is-said-to-resume-talks-with-skype-on-video-calling-partnership.html
Given the ever competitive nature of the social media market and the mutual benefits for both Skype and Facebook, these two companies coming together and creatin a video-calling partnership makes great business sense. Not only would this partnership benefit both companies, but the users of Skype and Facebook would benefit greatly from this new technology. While no formal announcement has been made, you can rest assured that Black Box Social Media will keep you abreast of any news of these two social media giants coming together and creating a video-calling partnership!
