You credit score is very important. You will need a good credit score in order to obtain a loan in order to leverage banks. As discussed in the official Mike Dillard and the Elevation group video on Opportunity Costs vs. Debt, there are definitely times when leveraging bank debt can be good. For example, if you have $100,000 in cash and want to buy a house, is it better to buy a house for $100,000 cash or is it better to put down 5% on a 5% mortgage and invest the remaining $95,000 in an investment that will pay you a return of 12%? Obviously the latter is better, but in order to take advantage of these strategies that the ultra rich do, you must have a good credit score.
