Facebook Insights
Without a doubt, businesses have been monitoring Facebook Insights to see just what is engaging their fans, driving likes, and most importantly moving folks to buy their products. However, we’ve seen that most people don’t actually visit Facebook fan pages to purchase products, rather they interact with content that appears in their News Feed and then move from there to making purchases. That being said the new Facebook Insights features are focused on helping businesses realize what content is in fact interesting and engaging and which content they should leave at the door. However, before we jump into the new Facebook Insights features, lets first explain the basic features of Facebook Insights so that you can develop a well-rounded understanding of the tool.
Facebook Insights | The Basics
There are a number of features available through the Facebook Insights tool. We will not go over all of them, rather just pick out a few that will help in your general understanding of the capabilities of this amazing tool.
Domain Insights
Facebook Insights for Domains offers a consolidated view of key metrics for any website, even those that have not implemented Facebook Platform. For example, if a user links to your site in their Facebook status message, that data is included in the analytics for your domain. You can access sharing metrics and demographic information per domain and per URL so you can optimize your content for sharing and better tailor your content to your audience.
If you administer a Facebook Page or have integrated the Open Graph protocol into your Web pages, you can see analytics for referral traffic and stream stories in the Insights dashboard, as well as tab views for your Facebook Pages. Insights will capture engagement with Pages regardless of whether an action was taken on or off Facebook.

Facebook Insights | What’s New?
Now that you’ve been able to look at the basic components of Facebook Insights, we’re really excited to tell you some new features that have been recently added to enhance the capabilities of the tool.
So if you are involved in any kind of internet marketing, you realize that their are certain algorithms that determine what shows up in a search, internet marketing careers are shaped around analyzing this process and trying to ‘crack the code.’ Well, Facebook is no different. Facebook also utilizes an algorithm that determines whether or not your content will show up in someone’s News Feed. However now, with these new Facebook Insights features, we can see which content is the most popular, so that you can duplicate these kinds of posts!
So how does Facebook Insights determine which content is relevant and why is knowing this information important?
The relevancy of this content is determined by a number of factors, including how many times it is liked, shared, commented on, etc. When fans of a company interact with branded content, it can then be passed on to their friends and their friends’ friends. With fan acquisition as the main motive behind the Facebook strategy of most businesses, it is helpful to learn that friends of fans are more likely to visit a brand’s store, website and even purchase a product than the average, uninfluenced consumer.
Facebook Insights | “People Talking About”
We recently did an article about a very interesting Facebook Insights feature called, “People Talking About,” and we believe that this is really going to help businesses gain a deep understanding about how their content is being shared.
Here’s how Mashable describes this Facebook Insight feature:
One of the metrics added to Facebook’s Page Insights is “People are talking about this.” This set of data counts stories that are eligible to appear in a user’s Newsfeed, such as any likes, wall posts, comments, shares, questions answered, RSVPs to events, Page mentions, photo tagging and location checkins. The metric allows the page administrator to know what posts have proven the most compelling and interactive.
Facebook Insights | Can You Handle This?
A lot of folks out there are worried that they may not be able to interpret the kind of information and analytics that Facebook Insights provides. Although you can jump into the really heavy analytics, one of the main goals that the new Facebook Insights wishes to accomplish is that the platform is easy for all to understand.
