The New YouTube Makeover…do you like the new design?
In an effort to please the viewers of the 3 billion plus uploaded videos per day, the new YouTube makeover was released today. The purpose is to make it easier for users on their home page to see the most relevant videos to them based on recent views and subscriptions. Here’s a short video from YouTube explaining some of the changes:
New YouTube Makeover | Homepage
The new YouTube homepage is designed to make it simpler to find and follow your favorite Channels when you visit the home page. On the left side of the homepage you can create your own personal, customizable YouTube Channel line-up. Once you’ve signed in, then you can browse recommended Channels, customize your homepage’s channel feed, or even link your YouTube account to Google+ and Facebook to see what your friends are sharing. There is a channel for just about every interest, ranging from sports to politics to fashion.
New YouTube Makeover | Channels
The new YouTube makeover revolves around one thing more than anything else: channels. The first new thing you’ll see is an “add channels” button in the top left-hand corner of the home page Under that you’ll find your top 10 favorite channels, which you can “pin” to the top of the page. Finally you can also see what channels are recommended for you and preview them to see if you wish to subscribe.
“The future of the YouTube experience has channels at the center of it,” says Margaret Stewart, director of User Experience at YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, Calif. “It’s a container for all the world’s video, and it needs to be the best home for that.” http://mashable.com/2011/12/01/youtube-gets-its-biggest-makeover-ever-becomes-more-google-like/
New YouTube Makeover | Integration with Social Media Sites
Obviously since YouTube is owned by Google, you would expect the new YouTube makeover to include integration with Google+. But you’ll also be able to link and connect with arch nemesis Facebook and Twitter as well. And the channel change also came to YouTube apps on platforms other than the web. For example, it has now become much quicker and simpler to access YouTube channels on your Xbox.
In summary, the new YouTube makeover appears to be very user friendly and does a good job of organizing itself based on user preferences. What do you think of the new YouTube makeover?
