Twitter's Advertising Blog

Twitter’s Advertising Blog

On October 2nd, Twitter’s advertising blog began creating posts to share news and updates on what the company is doing in that particular market.  It’s not a bad idea on Twitter’s part either seeing that they’ve grossed almost $140 million in ad revenue so far according to eMarketer.  Now that’s pocket change compared to Facebook’s ad revenue, but with Twitter’s advertising blog, they’re hoping to educate the public with how their ad system works and share examples of success.

Twitter’s Advertising Blog | What To Expect

You can find Twitter’s advertising blog at advertising.twitter.com, but since they’ve only been posting for less than a week, the page is somewhat empty for the time being.  However, here is a taste of what the writers at Twitter have been talking about so far on Twitter’s advertising blog:

October 6th:

As part of our industry presence during Advertising Week in New York, Twitter has curated a photographic exhibit to showcase a few of the people and organizations that are changing the world, one Tweet at a time. The exhibit contains a series of dramatic photographic images combined with historical Tweets that tell powerful stories of ‘doing good’ and the role that Twitter has played in amplifying those efforts.

The exhibit was unveiled on October 4th at Twitter’s #party4good, benefiting charity: water, where we celebrated with clients and many of the brands that are using Twitter to amplify their efforts to ‘do good’. One great example is Virgin America. They partnered with Stand Up To Cancer to launch a one-day flash sale exclusively on Twitter called the Fly Forward, Give Back campaign.

October 3rd:

Twitter’s first ad product, called Promoted Tweets, was introduced last year with six advertising partners. Since then we’ve added Promoted Accounts, Promoted Trends, new analytics tools and additional targeting capabilities. We’ve also grown from that small handful of initial partners to more than 1,600 brands. Marketers from every industry have successfully leveraged our ad products to grow followers, build awareness, launch new products and drive online and offline sales.

After analyzing thousands of campaigns on our platform, one common theme has emerged: engagement. On average, marketers have seen a 3-5% engagement rate for Promoted Tweets in search – an order of magnitude above most forms of digital advertising – and engagement has remained strong as we’ve begun testing Promoted Tweets in users’ timelines.

So as you can see, Twitter’s advertising blog’s main focus is to give examples of creative ways to promote your business on Twitter (possibly through sponsoring a great non-profit like Charity Water) and to share statistics, features, and tools that are available through Twitter’s ad service.  It’s probably not too bad of an idea to follow Twitter’s advertising blog especially if you’re an internet marketer, because you should probably investigate the service before investing in an ad campaign.

Twitter’s Advertising Blog Launches | Bottomline

Many people have wondered why Twitter has taken so long to ad a lot of advertising to its platform, well catering to the user is very important to Twitter, here’s what one eMarketer had to say on the subject:

“User experience is very important to Twitter,” Seattle-based eMarketer analyst Debra Aho Williamson told Bloomberg. “That’s why they’ve been very careful.”

Now that Twitter is ready to play the game, they’re really hitting the pavement hard with not only the launch of Twitter’s advertising blog, but also a new London ad office, and their first foreign post.
