New Facebook News Feed

What do you think of the new Facebook news feed?

Since the advent of Google+, Facebook has been making a series of changes to its service, many of which seem designed to match features of its new apparent rival.  For users who woke up this morning and checked their favorite social media site, they were surprised to see the new Facebook News Feed.  If there is one thing that I’m finding Facebook users don’t like, it’s change.

New Facebook News Feed | What Changes Were Made?

Before we get into the reaction sparked from the new Facebook news feed, let’s first discuss what these changes were:

Facebook introduced a new, real time “ticker” on its users’ home pages.  This ticker provides real-time notifications of what friends are doing on the service.  It is located on the top right of the page.  If you hover over the post, you can see a quick preview of the entire status updates and what others think without leaving your home page.

Facebook also revamped the service’s main news feed to flag important items by using a blue corner.  The blue corner on the top left of a post marks a story that Facebook feels will be interesting for the user.

The top corner shows a Blue Flag indicating a ‘Top Story’. Did you also notice that the pics are now much bigger too?

Finally, Facebook also changed the way photos are displayed on the site, increasing the size of pictures that appear in a users’ news feed.  Where most photos were small thumbnails, the changes have made the photos much easier to read.

So far, all of these changes seem to be positive.  How do users feel now that there is a new Facebook news feed?

New Facebook News Feed | Users Reactions?

As you can tell by the picture example above, there is quite an initial reaction to the new Facebook news feed.  So far, most of it has been negative.  For example, there have been about 15 ‘Hate the new Facebook News feed’ pictures on my feed this morning in the past 15 minutes and I’ve yet to see a sign that says ‘Love it’.  But if there’s one thing I’ve come to realize about Facebook users is that they don’t like change.

The only thing that you can be sure of is that only time that the average Facebook user ever will show support for this new Facebook news feed is when Facebook makes its next change.
