New Twitter Advertising Platform

What Will the New Twitter Advertising Platform Mean for Businesses?

Twitter has slowly but certainly been finding ways to commercialize and monetize itself. Ever since it began to offer promoted tweets and trends that advertisers could buy, the entire process has made a lot of profit for a lot of companies. However, the process was plagued by an inefficiency that has crippled it so far. The good news is, that flaw has just been dealt with. Some people are concerned about where Twitter and its advertisers will go from here.  So what will the new Twitter advertising platform mean for businesses?

New Twitter Advertising Platform | A Long Time Coming

Twitter has gone a long time with fairly low revenues. While it started out in the classic dot-com fashion with an idea that people love and no sales to speak of, Twitter has blossomed into a respectable company with a solid base of sales. In mid 2010, Twitter’s CEO promised that self-serve advertising would be realized.

Only a year later, it has finally come to pass. Now, Twitter users can launch advertising campaigns immediately and pay with a credit card. This is far different than how the system was during its first couple of years.

New Twitter Advertising Platform | Self-Serve vs. Sales Team

Self-service is great in some instances and terrible in others. In the case of Twitter, it will end up saving a ton of time for companies that want to launch their paid advertising campaigns immediately. Because of the time savings, the profits Twitter makes for both its advertisers and itself are likely to rise considerably.

Under the old system, the only option an advertiser had was to fill out a form on Twitter’s website and wait for its sales team to respond. This multiplied the amount of time it took to roll out a campaign by a huge factor. With this much delay inherent in the process, a lot of advertisers were undoubtedly turned off and lost interest.

New Twitter Advertising Platform | How Will it Be Used?

The problem with any kind of advertising platform isn’t how it works but how people work with it. If Twitter’s paid advertisers are responsible and thoughtful, it’s going to work like gangbusters. But if they throw together shoddy campaigns, both their and Twitter’s image will be seriously stained. While working with Twitter’s sales team was inefficient, it at least provided a measure of clarity and quality control.

The new Twitter advertising platform is making great strides toward being more systematic and offering a more robust and simpler to use offering. The simpler and faster they can make their advertising campaigns, the more money businesses can make through them. This is better for everyone, provided it’s used responsibly.
