In an effort to use its 600 million-plus members to capitalize on the surging online-deal market, Facebook’s Deal Page is going to get a face lift so it can battle Groupon.

Facebooks’ Deal Page |According to Bloomberg:

Facebooks’ Deal Page service will get started in San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas, Atlanta, and Austin, Texas, the company said last week in a statement. It will be part of Facebook’s existing Deals program, which lets businesses offer specials to users. With the new feature, Facebook’s staff will work with businesses to spotlight deals and encourage users to share them with friends.

Local businesses will be able to sign up to use this feature (Facebooks’ Deal Page) soon, and people will be able to find Deals in the coming weeks,” the Palo Alto, California-based company said in the statement.

The foray into the deals market could put pressure on Groupon Inc. and LivingSocial, which lead the nascent industry but only have a fraction of Facebook’s users.

The social element is key to Facebooks’ Deals. There will be a way to share deals with your friends. You can check-in somewhere and tag your friends so they all get the same deal. More and more, social networking is becoming less about following the wisdom of the crowd and more about following the wisdom of your friends, and Facebooks’ Deals is set to capitalize.
